Sun Trade was established in 1996 to create fashionable
jewellery designed by Kati using local materials, to display the
jewellery at exhibitions and fairs, and to serve bead customers.
The Sun Trade shop was opened in December of that same year.
It's interior was designed by Kati together with her good
friend Koto Korponai and with the help of Vivian Gbortsu, the
Shop Manager. Koto's designing flair and artistic involvement
in exhibitions helped create Sun Trade's visual image and
reputation. Even though Koto is no longer in Ghana her stamp on
the shop still remains.
is well known for providing jewellery for traditional and social
events (such as outdoorings and weddings), the sponsorship of
beauty pageants such as Miss Malaika and Miss Ghana, for supplying
TV stations with accessories for their announcers, for providing
jewellery for magazine photo shoots, fashion shows, TV
programmes, and theatre productions such as most recently a play
Kati is a
founding and active member of the Ghana Bead Society, trains
would-be designers, runs workshops, and gives lectures on the
traditional role of beads in Ghanaian society. In addition Kati is in great demand for lessons in beads
stringing. Her knowledge of all aspects of the bead in the lives
of Ghanaians gives her a respected position in the contemporary
cultural scene. Her insight enables her produce bead accessories
for all types of occasions.
